Synology might choose to use BtrFS or MD for their RAID when BtrFS is used for the FS, I'm not sure which they use. I got that part from the OP. For Synology NAS, you create your RAIDs (1,5,6,10 SHR-1, SHR-2). Then you can use ext4 or Btrfs as the file system.
