WebNov 5, 2024 · A two osc FM synth is extremely rudimentary in generating good tones. Even a very cheap FM synth in the 80’s and 90’s used a four osc (ie, operator) architecture. I think there’s only so much you can cram into an effects pedal at a certain price point that dictates that decision to hold to two sinewave oscillators and a rudimentary envelope. In 2014 the original designer of the Mu-Tron III, Mike Beigel, began putting out a variation of this pedal again and now has mu-tron.com and makes the Micro-Tron IV which runs around $279. Over the years plenty of other companies have come out with clones.
